Death of a legend
One sad note from the merry Christmas period.
Few people in my opinion deserve the epithet "legendary". But it's a word that I'm happy to use in combination with one name - a legendary performer who died today.
I saw Eartha Kitt perform on the London stage in the West End revival of Follies, and it's one of a handful of occasions where I actually wanted to stand on my seat and cheer.
An astonishing performance from a hell of a performer.
When she sang "I'm still here", you really believed it had been written for her.
(OK, I'm British and a bit shy, I didn't stand on my seat, but I felt like I could!)
Sometimes the magic is there, even for a professional critic like me - watching a performer totally committed to the art and the technique.
I'm happy to have seen her perform live... Thanks for being who you are - no-one can be any more.
